NewJeans dominate Korean and Japanese charts with their Japanese debut single "Supernatural"
June 22nd, 2024
According to Hanteo Chart on the 22nd, the Japanese debut single "Supernatural" (Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, Hyein) sold 685,753 copies on the day of its release, topping the daily record chart (June 21st).
It is unprecedented for a Japanese single to top the Korean music charts. Considering that there is only a month difference between the release time of the double single "How Sweet," which recently became a million seller for four consecutive weeks, the album's powerful influence is even more impressive.
It is also cruising on major music websites in Korea including MelOn and Genie. "Supernatural" ranked 34th on MelOn's Top 100 in an hour after its release on the previous day, and raised its ranking to 13th place (as of 00:00 on the 22nd). "Right Now" is also on the chart, and its two sides are very popular. It seems that NewJeans' unique sensibility, which naturally permeates the music itself regardless of the language, is also successful this time.
The Japanese single "Supernatural" topped iTunes' "Top Albums" in seven countries/regions including Japan, Hong Kong, and Singapore, ranking third on the "Worldwide iTunes Albums." The title song "Supernatural" ranked first on the iTunes' "Top Song Chart" in over 25 countries/regions, including #1 in 3 countries/regions.
The music video is also a hot topic of conversation. Featuring cheerful performances like playing freely with close friends to the rhythm of the new jack swing, it ranked fourth among the most viewed videos in 24 hours on YouTube.
On the day of their debut single's release, they made a series of appearances on Japanese terrestrial music programs. They performed their new songs on the morning TV Fuji Television's "Mezamashi TV" and "Mezamashi 8" in the evening Asahi TV's "Music Station" and captured the hearts of local fans. NewJeans will perform Nihon today (22nd).
